Please join us on Wednesday, May 16 for our RPCVCO Annual Meeting, Board Elections and our kick-off to the summer urban garden project! We will be meeting at the 1st Unitarian Society of Denver, 1400 Lafayette. This will be my last meeting as your president, and I am so excited to announce that the board has nominated Sherry Manning as your next leader! Sherry proudly served as a volunteer in the Philippines, and has started a nonprofit that supports her host family’s organic farm (see page 2). She brings great experience working with nonprofits and a winning personality- please come to our meeting in May to welcome her and officially vote her in as our next president. It’s been an amazing 5 years as your leader of RPCVCO. Thank you for your continued involvement and interest in what we do- we look forward to continued growth under Sherry’s leadership. Following board elections and the reading of our annual reports, we will enjoy a presentation by Dana Miller, founder and director of Grow Local Colorado. Grow Local Colorado is a volunteer run organization that plants edible gardens in city parks around the greater Denver Area. In 2011, Grow Local volunteers grew 2,789 pounds of produce, which was then donated to eight communities in need. The Grow Local RPCV garden in Civic Center Park was a huge success last year and the 411 pounds of produce harvested was donated to the Gathering Place. Join Grow Local Founder and Director, Dana Miller at our May 16th meeting and learn more about their work and our continued partnership garden in Civic Center Park this season. Dana will also be sharing some tangible take home tips about composting and home gardening. |
