Help Plant the RPCVCO Garden for 2017

Civic Center Park

Join the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Colorado (RPCVCO), Grow Local Colorado, and a local Boys and Girls Club on Tuesday, May 16th, at 5:00 p.m. for the annual planting of the garden in Civic Center Park. This will the 7th year in a row that RPCVCO has partnered with Grow Local Colorado on this garden, with all harvested produce going to the Gathering Place.

Gloves, shovels, and plants will be provided, all you need to bring is a willingness to get a little dirty.

Since 2010, in partnership with Grow Local Colorado, which provides seedlings, tools and occasional weeding expertise, numerous RPCVCO volunteers have donated more than 800 hours of time to harvest 1,960 pounds of produce, valued at $4,500.

Can't make this time? Look for times throughout the summer to help with weeding and harvesting of the garden.

May 2017 General Meeting

Daniels Fund

After a quick presentation of our annual report and voting on of new board members, we will have a speaker from the Gathering Place to keep with our theme of gender equality. You may have heard of the Gathering Place before since that's where we donate the produce from our garden. It is a day shelter for homeless and low income women and children. They will speak more about what services they provide and the unique challenges of navigating the street as a woman or even specifically a transgender woman.
The meeting will be at the Daniels Fund Building, 101 Monroe St in Denver starting at 7:00 PM. Please use the parking lot to the west of the building.

Northern Colo. Highway Clean Up - May 2017

Ted's Place (Shell Gas Station)

RPCVs in northern Colorado have adopted miles 100 to 102 of Highway 14 through Poudre Canyon for more than ten years. Highway cleanup occurs three times each summer followed by opportunities to go hiking on nearby trails.

Saturday, May 20 is the first clean up of the year. If you’re interested in joining, meet at Ted’s Place, the Shell gas station located near the intersection of U.S. 287 and Highway 14, to car pool up to the cleanup section of the highway. The carpool will meet at 7:00 a.m. and a hike will take place afterwards if there is interest.

Welcome Back and Send Off Event

University Memorial Center, Room 235

Join us as we welcome back recently returned Peace Corps Volunteers and wish the next generation of Peace Corps Volunteers a fond farewell!

The RPCVs of Colorado will once again partner with the local Peace Corps recruiters on an event that brings together invited nominees, invitees, applicants and their families to meet with RPCVs to talk more about what it has meant to you to be a Peace Corps Volunteer. New this year - the event will also be a celebration to welcome back recently returned Peace Corps Volunteers. There will be time during the event to meet one-on-one and in small groups separated by region of service.

For 2017, the event is taking place in Boulder, in room 235 of the University Memorial Center at the University of Colorado. Unlike in previous years, no need to bring any food or drink.

Registration is required for this event and can be completed below. We will be capping the event to 20 Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) in order to keep a good balance between RPCVs and other attendees. If you are an invitee, nominee, family or friends, or generally interested in learning more about Peace Corps, register for the event on the Peace Corps website.
